Long Vowel Learning, Plus a Super Sunday Sale!

This is the time of year when we separate the men from the boys…The cream from the coffee…The Broncos from the Seahawks…

Yep, it’s that time of year…Long Vowel Learning time.

Everything they thought they knew about vowels up until now has just been sacked by their Quarterbacks…That’s us.

We feel kind of bad, but if they don’t get off the bench quick, we’re likely to pull a penalty flag and send them back to the 40 yard line guided reading table.

Fortunately for our team, they’ll be scoring touchdowns
as we master our long vowels with a few of our favorite activities for
long vowel learning.

We’ve created 3 sets of Interactive Phonics Readers so far and our kids are loving them! Short Vowels, Digraphs and Long Vowels are done and the best part is they are successful and actually claimed “Reading is so fun today!”…Yay!

We’ve also been running a ton of practice drills to get them ready for the BIG Game! Which to them pretty much means…2nd grade.

Mel over at Seusstastic Classroom Inspirations has a super sized collection of Candy Land Games. Our class is obsessed with her long vowel bundle! Really all we had to do was leave the game box sitting on our reading table for a few days and not let them play yet. They begged us. They were warmed up and ready to go. So, we gave it to them. They loved reading Long A and Long I words and we will keep adding more long vowels to the batch as we learn them. The level of difficulty was perfect for all of our reading groups. In all honesty, we don’t really care who wins the game tomorrow…We’re
just in it for the commercials and the snacks…And, the sales! Anyone with us?
